Kapsambelis and Karla DeMoe Hornstein based on the book The Inheritance: A Family on the Front Lines of the Battle Against Alzheimer’s Disease, written by Kapsambelis. The book examines the DeMoe family from North Dakota as they deal with Alzheimer’s. The DeMoes have the most devastating form of the disease that there is: early onset Alzheimer’s, an inherited genetic mutation that causes the disease in one hundred percent of cases, and has a fifty percent chance of being passed onto the next generation.
