Coronavirus (COVID-19) Prevention Updates

Updated 3/28/20

While we DO NOT have any cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) at any of our communities, please know that we are taking necessary precautions to keep the health, wellness and safety of our residents and staff our number one priority.

On Friday, March 27, Eventide was notified at the end of the day that a provider from a local hospital/clinic system tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19). This provider was in our Eventide on Eighth Care Center on Monday. Staff that interacted with the external provider have been sent home to self-quarantine for 14 days and all resident families have been notified.

Here’s what we are doing:

On March 12, we implemented the following COVID-19 response plan:

·       Our building closed to all visitors for everyone’s safety per the requirement of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We encourage loved ones to communicate with our residents by phone or video chat, if possible.

·       We implemented enhanced infection control measures. This includes restricting residents from congregating in social spaces, moving throughout the building and keeping them in their rooms. Our dedicated staff continues to serve residents, ensuring they each receive one-on-one activities and daily movement.

·       We started to monitor and screen residents for symptoms of COVID-19 on a daily basis.

·       We began to screen staff and external care providers upon entering our buildings. No one is allowed in the building if they are ill.
Any staff who exhibit symptoms are instructed to self-quarantine at home.

Since notification of exposure at our community, we’ve initiated the following measures:

·       Residents will be screened twice per day.

·       Staff will continue to wear appropriate personal protective equipment and as an additional precaution all staff will now wear masks at all times.

In addition, we follow all recommended guidance from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention and the Minnesota Department of Health to protect our residents and staff from this virus and will continue to take every action possible to prevent it in our setting.

FAQs (March 12, 2020)

While we DO NOT have any cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) at any of our communities, please know that we are taking necessary precautions to keep the health, wellness and safety of your loved one as our number one priority.

We understand you may have questions regarding the evolving coronavirus (COVID-19) and the prevention and preparedness steps that we are taking.

Q. What is Eventide’s plan for dealing with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19)?
A. Eventide has emergency preparedness and infection prevention and control plans in place, which have addressed how we prepare for and manage infectious disease outbreaks.

  • Eventide has an active COVID-19 Task Force who are meeting regularly and are in direct conversations with official resources to stay informed with the latest information. We are closely monitoring the latest information from the Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and we are working with state and local public health and emergency preparedness officials to strengthen our preparation for a possible outbreak of COVID-19.
  • Eventide staff are trained in infection control practices and follow established protocols based on that training. Since this is currently influenza season, staff already have a heightened awareness of the risks posed to our residents/tenants by respiratory illnesses and the vital importance of effective infection control practices. However, we have increased our training and retraining efforts in this area.
  • While maintaining standard practices for good hygiene and infection control, Eventide communities are increasing disinfection of frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • Clinical care staff are monitoring the health of residents in our care.
  • Hand sanitizer dispensers are at all Eventide site entrances and throughout our facilities.
  • Employees who are ill are encouraged to stay home.
  • Eventide staff are being screened per Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations.
  • We are working with our vendors for needed supplies to ensure we can continue to provide care to our residents.
  • Reliable and verified information is being communicated by Eventide to staff, residents and the public through our website, social media, email and/or print notifications.

Q. Can I still visit my loved one?
A. Following the guidance of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), we are restricting visitors except for special circumstances, such as end-of-life, when a visitor is essential for a resident’s emotional well-being and care, and those visits should be limited to minimize exposure beyond the immediate family member.

Q. Can I still volunteer?
We are restricting external volunteers at this time.

Q. Are vendors allowed in?
We will be coordinating with vendors to minimize their travel within our communities. This will likely include common drop off location for packages/items, limited internal distribution of items, and an expectation of hand washing or use of alcohol based hand rub (ABHR) and other infection control practices when entering the building.

Q. Will I be notified if there is an outbreak at an Eventide community?
A. At this time, no one at any Eventide community has been diagnosed with COVID-19. In the event of a localized outbreak, we will make the appropriate notifications. We will also utilize our website and social media channels to inform the public as to the accessibility of the community.

Q. Do you have enough supplies and staff to care for residents in the case of an outbreak?
A. Supplies will be available and distributed when the need arises. We are working with our vendors to ensure we have adequate supplies to care for our residents. Please note that at this time there is no medication (antibiotic or antiviral) that is effective against the Coronavirus.

Q. What can I do to help?
A. You can be helpful in the following ways:

  • Prevent spreading germs by washing your hands often or using an alcohol based hand run (ABHR)
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing and dispose all used tissues
  • Stay in touch with your loved one by phone, text, email or other means that do not require physical proximity.
