  • Individual grief support
  • Grief support groups
  • Educational grief events
  • Phone call check-ins & support
  • Remembrance services
  • Mailings – including grief support, Embrace newsletter, resources and more

Our support groups meet throughout the year as a service to family members and friends experiencing the recent death of a loved one, and promote healthy conversations between an Eventide team member trained in grief support and a small group of individuals going through a common experience.

Grief Note: Seeking Answers After Loss

The desire for answers often accompanies death and loss. You may feel the need to answer the question, “Why?” Why did this happen now? We still had plans. Why her? She was so healthy.

And at other times there are the bigger questions: Why do I have to go through this at all? Why do I have to experience death and loss?

Though sometimes you find answers in life, many times you may be left with incomplete, less than satisfying or no answers at all. So, in understanding your loss, what can you do? Grief expert Dr. Alan Wolfelt explains that in those times when the “mysteries of life and death can’t be fully explained,” they must be “pondered.”

Taking time to ponder deeper questions allows you to consider things you may have avoided or not wished to confront during caregiving. Although new answers may not be forthcoming, the process itself can deepen understanding and even strengthen what you do believe. In addition to finding meaning, you may also see growth as fears are confronted and acceptance is fostered.

An example of this is found in James 4:14 of the Bible, which asks the question, “What is your life?” It is a question meant to stimulate thought about the brevity of life and the future. Pondering these things may not answer all specific questions about your loss, but it can provide a path for finding comfort.

So, as you grieve, take time to ponder and explore the questions you may have put off. Reach out to others who have experienced similar loss.
