Art With Ann: Watercolor 101
Monday, June 16th | Sheyenne Crossings | 2:00 PM
A late-comer to watercolor, Ann Westra thought it would be fun to take a beginner drawing and watercolor class after she retired in 2020. You’re never too old to learn something new! She worked in the commercial printing industry for over 40 years, so was familiar with color and composition, but hadn’t picked up a paint brush since junior high. She was bitten by the watercolor bug and tries to paint every day. Because, like playing an instrument, or playing tennis, practice, practice, practice is what helps you get better. She is a supporting artist at Gallery 4, and a member of the Red River Watercolor Society and Fargo-Moorhead Visual Artists.
She will give an overview of the basics of watercolor and will demonstrate how to paint flowers in the loose style while you paint along.

Fargo-Moorhead's Hardanger Fiddle Renaissance
Wednesday, June 18th | The Linden | 3:00 PM
Markus Krueger, Programming Director at the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County, will share the story of how our region became the heart of America’s Hardanger fiddle renaissance.
Hardanger fiddles are the national folk instrument of Norway. Imagine a violin with twice as many strings, inlayed with bone and shell, doodled all over with folk flower drawings, and topped with a carving of a lion or troll. These instruments came to America with the immigrants. Over the past 10 years, master luthier Bud Larsen has taught about 20 apprentices to make these Norwegian folk instruments, and now there are likely more people building Hardanger fiddles in Fargo-Moorhead than the rest of the USA combined.
As one of those apprentices, Markus will tell you the history of this instrument, show how they are built, and explain why our community has become the epicenter of America's Hardanger fiddle revival.
Don’t miss this fascinating glimpse into a cultural revival taking shape right here in our community. This is Modal Title
