Bringing the music
One of our most popular activities is Music Therapy. Whether we’re gathering around the community room or our therapists are working one-on-one with residents affected by cognitive impairments, our Music Therapy program enriches the livelihood of everyone at Eventide Senior Living Communities.
Music therapy enhances mind, body and spirit
We are one of few senior living communities in the region to offer certified Music Therapy designed by licensed and certified music therapists. Music therapy is considered a clinical therapeutic intervention and North Dakota is one of the first states in the country to establish licensure rules.
Music Therapy is the ultimate self-care tool for people of all ages. Not only does it help connect us to favorite people, memories, and emotions, but music also taps into our bodies’ abilities to heal.
Music therapy is scientifically proven to:
- Ease symptoms of depression, stress and anxiety
- Promote socialization
- Improve cognition and focus
- Boost physical fitness
Residents and families don’t have to be experiencing any concerns to enjoy music therapy sessions. Many join along simply because it’s great fun.
Types of music therapy
Eventide Senior Living Communities offers both group and individual music therapy sessions. Our staff works with our residents to determine which programs most interest them.
Group music therapy
Group Music Therapy sessions are in heavy rotation on Eventide’s events calendars. Designed to please large and small crowds alike, it’s not uncommon to catch a live set being performed by local bands and performers.
Group music therapy sessions get residents up and out of their apartments — and often their chairs, too — for socializing, group sing-alongs, and a little exercise, too.
Individual music therapy
Individual music therapy is tailored to each individual and designed in collaboration with our certified music therapists and other health professionals. These sessions provide residents with more intensive therapy to address issues of low mood, anxiety and mobility.
Our memory care residents also benefit greatly from both group and individual music therapy sessions, and the one-on-one time with music therapists can make a huge difference. Most people experiencing progressive dementia are able to connect with music from their younger years, often being able to recite lyrics to hymns and songs by heart. In many instances, as the dementia progresses, music becomes a stronger and stronger outlet.
