It has been difficult to know what to say about the murder of George Floyd and the protests that have followed, but silence is not going to change the racism that continues to haunt our communities and our country.
Recent events have opened the eyes of the world to the continued racial, economic and educational disparities that run through our country. Together, we mourn the painful and unjust death of George Floyd and recognize that peace is not possible when our team members, residents or communities live in fear and inequality.
For many years, we have been fortunate to employ a diverse team of people. People of color have been an important part of the growth and development of our organization. With that said, we know we can do better. We as an organization commit to listening, learning and acting as we move forward.
We are in the process of identifying what we can do to enable us to listen, learn and make change within our organization and in our communities. We look to our leaders at each of our campuses to provide opportunities for dialogue and change around these issues.
At Eventide we believe in working against racial inequality and injustice, not only as health care professionals, but as people who believe each person is made in the image of God.
Change must begin with each of us and we as an organization, and as individuals, must be willing to listen and be a catalyst for making a difference.
Sincerely,
Jon Riewer, President and CEO
